HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC_1985-07-27 Special Meeting MinutesNOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a special meeting of the Morro Bay City Council has been called by the Mayor pursuant to Section 54956 of the Government Code and will be held on Saturday, July 27, 1985 at 11:00 a.m. in the City Hall Conference Room. Said special meeting shall be for the purpose of hearing information to be presented by Congressman Leon Panetta regarding offshore oil drilling. No action by Council is anticipated. DATED: July 23, 1985 ARDITH DAVIS, Deputy City Clerk City of Morro Bay, California MINUTES - MORRO BAY CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING - JULY 27, 1985 CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM - 11:00 A.M. Mayor Zeuschner called the meeting to order at 11:08 a.m. PRESENT: Councilmember Kaltenbach, Miller, Risley, Sheetz and Mayor Zeuschner ABSENT: None STAFF: Forrest Henderson, Assistant to the City Administrator Mayor Zeuschner stated that the meeting had been called for the purpose of receiving information from Congressman Leon Panetta regarding off -shore oil drilling. Mayor Zeuschner introduced the Congressman. Congressman Panetta briefed Council on the negotiations with the Secretary of Interior to protect the California Coast and noted that greater pressure was exerted each year by the oil companies to allow off -shore oil drilling. He reviewed the history of this issue and the proposals for the area off Morro Bay. He distributed copies of the tentative agreement to protect and develop the California Outer Continental Shelf. After Congressman Panetta's presentation Council discussed their concerns and questions were asked by the public present. MOTION: Councilmember Risley moved that the City Administrator be directed to draft a resolution to support Congress- man Panetta's offshore oil drilling negotiations position with the Department of the Interior. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Kaltenbach and unanimously carried. (5-0) Congressman Panetta also reviewed the Federal Budget and the fact that Revenue Sharing will probably be funded, but there were no guarantee's for 1987. He also reviewed various other legislative issues of interest to Morro Bay. MOTION: Councilmember Sheetz moved that the meeting be adjourned to Monday, July 29, 1985 at 7:00 p.m. to interview applicants for Harbor Commission. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Kaltenbach and unanimously carried. (5-0) The meeting adjourned at 12:00 p.m. Recorded by: FORREST HENDERSON Assistant to the City Administrator
